چکیده

The paper presents a formal semantics for distributed inference in the family of intelligent systems based on distributed frame hierarchy model. A formal semantics for a subclass of frame-production systems is presented, based on denoting a knowledgebase by a frame world state function W, and then defining an operational semantics for logical inference in terms of transformations of this function. Distributed frame hierarchy is then represented by a set of state functions with either static or mobile references to each other, corresponding to static and mobile inheritance or aggregation. Two types of semantics are introduced for inference in distributed system: equivalent semantics, where distributed system is reduced to an equivalent state function by means of combination operator F, and extended semantics, defined on sets of state functions. By demonstrating equivalence of those semantics in the class of normal systems we can also show the equivalence of static and mobile inheritance. Described semantics forms the basic functionality of JULIA toolkit for creating distributed Permission to copy without fee all or part of this material is granted provided that the copies are not made or distributed for direct commercial advantage, the CSIT copyright notice and the title of the publication and its date appear, and notice is given that copying is by permission of the Institute for Contemporary Education JMSUICE. Ontological Design Patterns for Distributed Frame Hierarchy

With a very important role played by ontologies in many aspects of modern IT, the issues of ontology engineering deserve special attention. One of effective representation architectures for ontologies with dynamic knowledge in distributed environments is distributed frame hierarchy [1]. In this paper we present typical ontological design patterns that appear in connection to that architecture. ...

Application of Frame Semantics to Teaching Seeing and Hearing Vocabulary to Iranian EFL Learners

A term in one language rarely has an absolute synonymous meaning in the same language; besides, it rarely has an equivalent meaning in an L2. English synonyms of seeing and hearing are particularly grammatically and semantically different. Frame semantics is a good tool for discovering differences between synonymous words in L2 and differences between supposed L1 and L2 equivalents. Vocabulary ...

Viewpoints on Emergent Semantics

We introduce a novel view on how to deal with the problems of semantic interoperability in distributed systems. This view is based on the concept of emergent semantics, which sees both the representation of semantics and the discovery of the proper interpretation of symbols as the result of a self-organizing process performed by distributed agents exchanging symbols and having utilities depende...

Issues in MEMS Macromodeling

AHDL modeling of MEMS components for system simulation is slowly maturing, however many issues remain regarding interoperability and composability. A discussion of MEMS natures, hierarchy and model partitioning helps to introduce the issues. Specific conventions for interoperability include choice of component reference frame and associated reference directions. A composite discipline extension...

DAML+OIL: A Reason-able Web Ontology Language

Ontologies are set to play a key role in the ”Semantic Web”, extending syntactic interoperability to semantic interoperability by providing a source of shared and precisely defined terms. DAML+OIL is an ontology language specifically designed for use on the web; it exploits existing web standards (XML and RDF), adding the familiar ontological primitives of object oriented and frame based system...
